If I could be anyone, would I still be me?
Probably, but if I could be one third Pablo Neruda, I’d like being me better.
Being a writer is what I declared I wanted to be when I was a five-year-old kid, either that or something else. I did that something else first, and even though it allowed me to do a lot of writing, it was never a perfect fit, so now I just write.
When I think back to me at five, I’m still surprised I knew what I’d be when I grew up.
As a writer, I look forward to every day and every new project. When I’m not writing, I’m thinking about writing. I’ll write almost anything. In my spare time, I’m working on a novel and compiling a collection of poetry for publication.
I created this site to share some of my work that’s been published elsewhere and to share a blog where I can write about the things I’ve learned and the things on my mind. I write at Medium a lot too – I love that site.
My writing is influenced by my Buddhist beliefs, my love of magical realism, John O’Donohue, and being a woman in the world. There’s more to it than that, it’s a mix-tape with too many songs to list. I’m a Gen-Xer and the unique experiences of my generation are reflected in my writing. I have some nihilistic tendencies. I like unhappy endings and unlikeable characters. From time to time they show up in what I write. I also have a strong optimistic side that shows up frequently as well.
